The School Liaison Officer provides up-to-date educational resources and information to military families with school-aged children (pre-kindergarten through 12th grade) who are scheduled to PCS to Beale, are currently assigned to Beale, and are about to PCS form Beale to a new duty station.
Resources include:
- Nationwide kindergarten and 1st grade entrance age requirements.
- An active relationship with the California Office of Education and local school districts for seeking alternatives to ensure qualified high school students from military families meet graduation requirements on time.
- Information for teachers, staff and school administrators on how PCS moves, deployments and multiple school transfers affect military children.
- Consultations with parents and children regarding academic achievement issues and concerns with the local school districts.
- Consultations with famlies and school officials regarding accommodations for school-aged children with special needs (e.g. local programs, enrollment, IEPs, placements, etc.).
- Links to educational resources such as school district rules and regulations, schedules, calendars, and lists of curriculum and activities offered, if available.
- A checklist of the documents required to enroll school-aged children into the local schools as well as those in the new receiving schools at new duty stations
- Negotiations with sending schools and medical treatment facilities to provide copies of records for military parents to hand-carry to the new schools.
- Updates on current and pending legislative initiatives that benefit school-aged military children.
- Negotiations with local schools to either hold additional try-outs, waive try-outs for students with records of previous affiliation, or extended deadlines for military students who transfer from other states and coutnries and wish to participate in school atheletic and other extracuricular activites.
- Links to educational websites and other beneficial websites with insights to intiatives that support military families throughout the world. |
